Historical- July 19- Recreating Skyfall

“The machine of a dream, such a clean machine

With the pistons a pumpin’, and the hubcaps all gleam

When i’m holding your wheel

All I hear is the gear”

Roger Taylor

Queen- Im in love with my car

This week I am saying goodbye to an old friend and that is my 2009 Ford Ka.

This car came in to my life in February 2009 & I alone have done well over 100,000 miles in it over the years. This car has been an ever dependent friend for me over the years & has been ( apart from my girlfriend- now wife Amy) the only constant since I started my business in 2010.

I have travelled the length & breadth of the country in him (yes- he is defiantly a him) to reach all manner of photography jobs, he has had brides and grooms on there wedding days in him to reach strange & random photo locations, he has had to be dragged from a ditch- that was mainly my fault, he has been a little van for 3 house moves & been there for so many highs & lows over the last 10 years of my life.

Over the years I have laughed in him, sang in him, contemplated the wonders of the universe in him, cried in him & many many times taken my frustrations out on his very solid steering wheel as I wondered where I was heading & if I was good enough to make a career & run a business as a freelance photographer. He has always given me the answer to any question I needed to ask.

But with us all old father time has caught up & its time to face this next stage of my life in a newer set of wheels but not before one last adventure.

Ever since watching the 23rd film in the James Bond series ‘Skyfall” I have wanted to drive down Glen Etive and recreate the iconic scene from the film. It has always been in the back of my mind but with my car reaching 100,000 miles towards the end of last year and with him going in the next couple of weeks this idea came back to me. A final road trip was in order.

I have seen many photos of Glen Etive & have passed through Glencoe countless times over the years I was pretty sure what I would be facing, but to take the time to drive down the glen this morning with it being an overcast, grey, wet day it was a wonder. Traveling slowly along its narrow single track road strewn with camper vans & tents on both sides it’s a sight to behold and a must for anyone who has not visited.

Rest well old pal x
