Hi, I’m John
This is the very awkward bit for me as I have never really been comfortable as to how to write about myself or as a lot of these passages do come over very much ‘Blow my own trumpet!’ so I thought the best thing to do was to ask my wife, friends & family for their thoughts on me and my photography.
“ John is always taking photos, far to many photos & he always has that f***ing camera with him ”
— ‘You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take_ Wayne Gretzky’- Michael Scott
“ He has a very strange & quite odd fascination with penguins ”
— & I thank my wife for adopting me one. It’s a dream to photograph them in the wild.
“ Tell them about your award?“
— Thanks Mum_ Yes- I was a winner at The Scottish Press Photo Award 2006
Maybe not the answers that I wanted (& these are the ones I could publish!) They do say honesty is the best policy.
It was a high school class on photography when i was about 13/14 that I first got a taste of photography & I have been hooked ever since. I still remember the photos appearing before my eyes as we developed the prints in the darkroom. I use digital cameras & love the technology but I do wish I had the time to get and back into film work.
This early moment has driven my life in photography. I started my own photography business in 2010 focusing on wedding photography. Before this after studying photography at West Lothian College & Stevenson College in Edinburgh I worked as a freelancer for many press publications and companies in Scotland & the UK.
Photography is my life & I enjoy nothing more than taking photos. When I am not out photographing & documenting pretty much anything and everything I can be found indulging my other secondary loves pizza making- always time for chat about water/flour ratios & san marzano tomatoes. This alongside watching far too many cooking and ‘murder fluff’ detective tv shows (Death in Paradise being a current favourite) are a great relaxation on the days following weddings.
I always have a camera with me. I love the buzz & atmosphere of a wedding day & the challenge to capture as many bits & moments for you. I have been known to climb a tree or 2 for the best angles, I have been on & under more tables than i'd care to admit & I have given up counting how many fences, hedges, verges & bankings i’ve fallen over or down in my pursuit of a photograph.
If you would like to know more about me or my wedding photography please get in touch.
